There is a city called Alexandria (where I was born) in Romania, also, and it’s located south of Bucharest (the capital). The place you photographed was founded by Alexander the Great during the Greek conquest of Egypt, and the other after a Romanian prince in 1834. No other relation between the two. What I can’t believe is the contrast between the two locations. One is a modern place with a metropolitan feel, and the other an old world, rustic place.
No slacking Gabe! Write more on Alexandria. The last time I was there was 88. Only stayed 3 nights, and certainly didn’t get a taste for the city. The ltrip we made to Egypt 7 years ago, Alexandria was skipped all together, so I’m nice and thirsty for more juicy info.
Interesting–didn’t know there was an Alexandria in Romania as well. There’s one right next to D.C. of course, named after the Egyptian one.
Najah, the same thing happened to me on my last Egypt trip: I skipped Alex altogether. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to be sure to visit it this time around. And it appears that you’ll be getting your wish for more Alex trivia tomorrow…
You would think everyone knew that. Thank you for the info.
